I just moved in here in New York and I want to know the car insurance requirements here.

If you will live here in New York, the minimum liability car insurance requirements are US$25,000 for bodily injury (BI) for a person, US$50,000 for all injuries and US$10,000 for property damage (PD) during a car accident. However, this minimum limit might not be enough if a car accident is met. It is recommended that you should get a car insurance policy that carries at least US$100,000 of bodily injury protection per person and US$300,000 per motor accident. This will surely help you pay all medical expenses and covered the costs of car repairs if you happen to be involved in any car accidents.

In addition, the State of New York requires that a motorist gets a personal injury protection (PIP) and uninsured motorist insurance (UM). PIP could be used to pay the hospital bills when you happened to bump ones car. The policy holder could be exempt from getting a PIP but each passenger is required to carry with them a PIP so as to avoid exorbitant payments for bills in hospitals for bodily injuries during unexpected motor accidents. Under New York law, vehicle owners are required to purchase a UM car insurance to protect injured people caused by uninsured motorists. Victims are to receive the same amount of payment as if the motorist is insured if accidents happened. Almost 5% of motorists in New York are uninsured.
